Our Story

Our story began in 1994, with a single Chronic Sick Unit with 174 beds at the former Woodbridge Hospital in Hougang. Five years later, in 1999, we took over seven pavilion wards in Moulmein (the former wards of Tan Tock Seng Hospital) to open our first nursing home. Since then, Ren Ci has grown to operate a total of 1,301 beds across a community hospital in Novena and three nursing homes in Ang Mo Kio, Bukit Batok and Woodlands.

Annually, we serve more than 3,500 patients, residents and clients, the majority of whom suffer from multiple medical conditions and come from low-income families. We currently provide sub-acute care, palliative care, long-term residential care, rehabilitation, day care and home care services.

Ren Ci Hospital is guided by the principles of loving kindness and compassion to provide holistic and affordable medical, nursing and rehabilitative care services to the elderly and underprivileged regardless of one’s background, race and religion.

With strong partnerships and support from donors, volunteers and the community, Ren Ci Hospital continues to serve our beneficiaries with heart and hope.

Ren Ci Hospital also gratefully acknowledges the many contributions made by Mr Ong Pang Boon, Mr Yam Kum Weng and Ms Yu-Foo Yee Shoon since the early days of our charity. Under their guidance, we have gone from strength to strength.

Ren Ci Home Care services were re-launched in April 2022, to meet the demands and needs of an ageing population and to equip seniors to age-in-place. Ren Ci @Ang Mo Kio Officially Opens

Officially opened by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on 11 May 2019, Ren Ci @ Ang Mo Kio is the first purpose-built nursing home to embrace a HDB-style housing layout to help residents acclimatise to the nursing home. Residents live in “households” instead of “wards” and share a common living area with a kitchenette. To encourage the residents’ individual interests, there is also space in each household for gardening activities and keeping small pets such as fishes.

2019
Establishment of Ren Ci Learning Academy

Ren Ci Learning Academy (RCLA) was established in March 2019 to upskill the community’s capabilities to better care for the elderly. It aims to be at the forefront to drive the innovation and redesign of care to deliver and spread value-based and affordable care for the elderly. One of the focuses of RCLA is the cross-training and transdisciplinary model of care for Allied Health professionals (AHP). With the added skillsets, AHP will be equipped to conduct simple sessions independently to reduce the number of touch points that an elderly goes through in the healthcare system.
