Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong officiated the joint official opening the 332-bed Ren Ci @ Woodlands nursing home with Woodlands Health Campus on 13 July 2024. Ren Ci @ Woodlands is the first nursing home in Singapore to be part of an integrated health campus, with acute and community hospital care services operated by Woodlands Health. This allows for a shared care model between Woodlands Health and Ren Ci, providing for more individualisation and streamlining of care plans for our residents. 
 

Officially opened by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on 11 May 2019, Ren Ci @ Ang Mo Kio is the first purpose-built nursing home to embrace a HDB-style housing layout to help residents acclimatise to the nursing home. Residents live in “households” instead of “wards” and share a common living area with a kitchenette. To encourage the residents’ individual interests, there is also space in each household for gardening activities and keeping small pets such as fishes. 
 

Situated at the junction between Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1 and Avenue 8, the 470-bed home is part of the Health Ministry’s plan to build a robust home with integrated aged care services closer to the community. The new facility welcomed the first batch of residents in August 2017. When Ren Ci’s nursing home at Moulmein closed the same year, many of the residents chose to transfer to Ren Ci @ Ang Mo Kio to continue being cared for by Ren Ci.

The topping-out ceremony for the 256-bed Ren Ci @ Bukit Batok St. 52 was officiated by then Minister for Health Mr Gan Kim Yong a year earlier in 2014. The nursing home opened its door in January 2015 with the Senior Care Centre (SCC) commencing operations in the following month. Housing a Keep Fit Centre that is free for residents of Bukit Gombak to use, Ren Ci @ Bukit Batok St. 52 promotes social integration with the neighbourhood with residents going on outings to the nearby Little Guilin to enjoy the fresh air and greenery.
 

Ren Ci launched a refreshed logo and a new vision and mission to reflect our new directions.

Forty volunteers were certified in various skills such as ward safety and wheelchair handling at Ren Ci Caregiver Training course. The programme aims to increase the competency of volunteers in supporting therapists and nurses on patient care

A new Day Rehabilitation Centre service was launched as part of the Senior Care Centre co-located within the Community Hospital to optimise patients’ functional recovery. Both physiotherapy and occupational therapy sessions are available, with curated equipment available to best support seniors’ recovery.

Then-Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security, Professor S. Jayakumar officiated the opening of Ren Ci Community Hospital located  at our current site on 11 January 2010. The opening of the Community Hospital bore testament to Ren Ci’s continuing commitment to serve the community.

Ren Ci Community Hospital started operations and served the first rehabilitative patient from Tan Tock Seng Hospital on 22 January 2010. In the same year, Ren Ci Hospital and Tan Tock Seng Hospital signed a Clinical Governance Collaboration Agreement to develop clinical services, becoming the first official restructured hospital and community hospital to collaborate in this manner, lowering costs for patients and freeing up beds in Tan Tock Seng Hospital for patients who are in more urgent need of acute care.

More than 200 master chefs from the Society of Chinese Cuisine Chefs and Hou Yow Cooks’ Association gathered at Singapore Expo to take part in the “Grandeur of Master Chefs at Ren Ci Charity Dinner” on 30 October 2005. Over 3,500 guests attended the event and helped raised more than S$810,000.

The rapid growth of Ren Ci and increased demand for care services meant that the organisation had to expand. Plans to build a community hospital were disrupted twice – first, when the chosen site of the former Toa Payoh Hospital was taken back for economic redevelopment, and again when the vacated buildings next to Tan Tock Seng Hospital were handed over to the Communicable Diseases Centre due to the SARS outbreak. Then-Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Wong Kan Seng, officiated the ground-breaking ceremony of Ren Ci Community Hospital along Irrawaddy Road on 15 October 2005.

The first Ren Ci Charity Show was televised on 12 January 2003 to a nation-wide audience on Channel U. A star-studded cast, including international artistes, supported the show by performing various stunts and performances. The live variety programme received tremendous support, garnering S$6.5 million in donations. 
 

Ren Ci Home Care services were re-launched in April 2022, to meet the demands and needs of an ageing population and to equip seniors to age-in-place. We provide home personal care, nursing, therapy, medical services and transport, as a continuum of care to frail seniors who prefer to age with dignity in their own homes or the community instead of a nursing home. 
 

Ren Ci Learning Academy (RCLA) was established in March 2019 to upskill the community’s capabilities to better care for the elderly. It aims to be at the forefront to drive the innovation and redesign of care to deliver and spread value-based and affordable care for the elderly. One of the focuses of RCLA is the cross-training and transdisciplinary model of care for Allied Health professionals (AHP). With the added skillsets, AHP will be equipped to conduct simple sessions independently to reduce the number of touch points that an elderly goes through in the healthcare system. 
 

Ren Ci held the inaugural “Ren Ci Vegetarian Food Fiesta” at Suntec City, which has since become one of Ren Ci’s annual hallmark fundraisers. The first Fiesta attracted over 7,000 visitors and raised S$149,354. In its current iteration, the Fiesta is held at Ren Ci Community Hospital.
 

Located next to Tan Tock Seng Hospital along Irrawaddy Road, Ren Ci Community Hospital started operations in December 2008 to provide sub-acute and rehabilitation care for patients who require inpatient stay in a step-down setting before going home.
 

Ren Ci expanded its bed capacity in June 1999 with the addition of seven pavilion wards in Moulmein (former wards from Tan Tock Seng Hospital). The 210-bedded facility was known as Ren Ci Nursing Home and marked Ren Ci’s expansion into nursing home care. Ren Ci Nursing Home closed in 2017 as the premises were returned to the government, with the majority of residents choosing to relocate to the brand new Ren Ci @ Ang Mo Kio facility. 

A group of volunteers and medical professionals came together in September and established Ren Ci Hospital – a charity hospital at the Chronic Sick Unit of the former Woodbridge Hospital in Hougang. The long-term care establishment marks the first of several Ren Ci facilities to come.
